FG To Review Pre-Primary Education Curriculum In 2020


Curriculum for One Year Pre-primary Education in Nigeria will be due for review in Year 2020.

Stakeholders in the basic education sector revealed this in kano state ,Northwest  Nigeria,during a media dialogue organised by UNICEF on the development of Early Childhood Education in Nigeria.

UNICEF Education Expert, Swadchet Sankey said that the UN agency has begun the engagement of consultants on the review of the curriculum.

Sankey noted that capacity building for teachers in the delivery of early childhood education was important.

She decried lack of adequate monitoring of early childhood education and its impact on the basic education sub sector and enrolment level if children within the ages of 3 and 5.

Also speaking of Early Childhood Care Education ECCE, The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr Hamid Bobboyi said the ECCE is an integral part  of the Commission’s programme.

Bobboyi said Nigeria needs to encourage children at the early stage and indoctrinate  them into the system then.

This according to the Executive Secretary will make them appreciate learning.

“ECCE centers need to be motivated across all states,it will encourage teachers “he said.

“Ubec will sustain its intervention on ECCE to help the states and to ensure that they can sustain a robust  ECCE centers where the children will have the opportunity to begin learning at early stage “ Dr Bobboyi added.
