The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Owerri Zone, has lamented what it described as ill-treatment of its members in Kogi and Lagos states’ Universities.

Its zonal coordinator, Comrade Ike Odumegwu, made the call during a media briefing in Awka.
Briefing journalists, Comrade Odumegwu regretted the deplorable state of affairs and total mismanagement of state-owned universities by the Administrators, saying it is unacceptable.
He condemned the humiliation, unwarranted termination of appointments, use of students to threaten lives of its members and destruction of property in Kogi State University as well as the sack of lecturers in Lagos State University.
Comrade Odumegwu said that the crisis in Kogi state university has remained a recurring incident due to inadequate funding and erosion of university autonomy and academic standards by the state government, coupled with the sack of over one hundred and fifty academic staff while the Lagos State University has continued to record recklessness, impunity and maladministration by the incumbent Vice-Chancellor of LASU, who, he said, runs counter to the ideals and ethics of the university systems.
The Union demanded the immediate recall of the unjustly dismissed lecturers at Kogi state and the payment of all their entitlements.

Comrade Odimegwu pointed out that such dangerous developments are capable of destroying the Nigeria University Education and ridiculing her certificates in the global community.
The Owerri zonal coordinator called on the governor of Lagos state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and his Kogi counterpart, Yahaya Bello, to use their good offices to arrest the ugly development by directing the governing council and university administration to ensure the amicable resolution of the crisis before it is too late, stating categorically that the union will continue to use all lawful means to ensure that justice is done.
