Political parties under the Coalition of United Political Parties CUPP have continued to align themselves to support the candidature of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar .
Nine political parties signed a Memorandum Of Understanding with the CUPP while six others are awaiting admission.
The parties include United Patriot, Same Nigeria Congress, Reform and Advancement Party and Alliance for Social Democrats
Others are We the people Nigeria, Change Nigeria Party, People’s Coalition Party and Alliance National Party.
Briefing Journalists at the signing of the memorandum at the Shehu Yar’adua Center, Abuja, the Chairman, Coalition of United Political Parties, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said the number of political parties aligning to support the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had continued to swell into a formidable force to take over power in 2019
Chief Oyinlola said the country was in dire need of a leadership that would address challenges confronting the nation, expressing optimism that the Coalition of parties would win next year’s elections just as the opposition did in 2015.
He called on all members of the Coalition to be committed to the joint operation arguing that citizens were interested in a movement that would bring about stability in the polity.
The presidential candidate of We the Peoples Party WPN, Professor Peter Nwagwu was one of those who switched allegiance to the Coalition.
He said the ideologies of the aligned parties were in consonance with that of the PDP, a factor he said would give them a chance of forging a formidable front in the 2019 elections.
