Murder: 16 Remanded In Custody


An Akure Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Oke-eda in Akure magisterial district has remanded sixteen persons in Olokuta prison custody for alleged murder of one Banji Adafin.

The accused persons that were brought before Magistrate G. O Awodeyi were facing five count-charge of conspiracy, felony, armed robbery and aiding and abetting of murder.

The accused persons are: Balogun Yomi 24, Blessing Ogunlade 25, Akeem Adebayo 20, Oluwalolu Oluwaseun (a.k.a Iyan)23, Jimoh Sodiq 21, Oso John Omoniyi 24, Sodiq Babatunde 27.Theophelous Olumide 19.

Others are Ayomiposi Oluwatosin 25, Olasunla Korede 32, Babatunde seun junior 22, Seun Adebawo26, Damilola Samuel (a.k.a Mama)19, Mary Ogunlade f, 22, Mavellouse Length f, 19, and Tunde Adeyeri.

According to the  charge, the accused persons on or before 4th day of July 2017 at about 2000hrs at No. 5 Temidire Street, Muyiwa Oni Avenue , Behind kuteyi  Filling Station,  Owo Express way around Oloko area, in Akure Magisterial District did unlawfully have in their possession a prohibited firearm, and robbed one Banji Adafin of valuables and a sum of thirty three thousand naira(#33,000) and murdered him.

The alleged offence was said to contradict and punishable under Section 6(b), 6(a), 3(1), 1(2), (a) 8(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Cap R11, Volume 14,Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Section 316 and Punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37,Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Pleas were not taken from the accused persons.

Prosecuting, Principal Legal Officer From the office of the Director of Public Prosecution,  Barrister Wale Bamisile , prayed the court to remand the accused persons at Olokuta prison custody.

Counsels to the accused, Barrister Adelanke Akinrata and Barrister Temidire salau representing other counsels prayed the court to remand the accused persons in police custody instead of Olokuta Prison as requested by the Principal Legal Officer from the DPP.

In his ruling, Magistrate  ordered the remand of the accused persons at Olokuta Prison custody.

He thereafter, adjourned the case till 28th of August, 2017.
