Oh My Nation! – A Poem By Aare Tunde Dawood-Akerele

Oh My Nation!
Imagine your soul
Your jugular is holding
By the chameleonic jerks
In the government houses
By the thieving, deadly goliaths
In the green and the red chambers
Oh I can see you suffocating, dying
Still screaming for help but get none
The pallbearers with the coffin almost here
Though the obsequy, interment still sine die
Oh Compatriots, let’s rescue our nation
Let’s vote out the selfish and the megalomaniac
Pass vote of no confidence on the unruly horse.

Oh My Nation!
What a shame!
We the poor citizens too
Had segmented into groups
Like Arsenal and Chelsea fans
Arguing on cavil and triviality
Ignorantly celebrating our foes
That care not for our livelihood
Toying with our survival our lives
Hoodwinking our psyche, our sight
Tantalising us with on election days
Busy siphoning our commonwealth
Who aim at sharing the bequeath
Without giving us just a bit, modicum
Oh Compatriots, let’s rescue our nation
Furtherance of age long slumbering inimical

Let’s vote out the selfish and the megalomaniac
Pass vote of no confidence on the unruly horses.
My sole weeping could not the heal the wound
But our common effort could alter the scenario
East or West home is the best.
