She Deserted Me At My Trying Moment, Husband Tells Court

My lord, she deserted me at the trying moment of my life. She left me when I had an accident.

“She is adulterous and goes about sleeping with different men.

A 35-year-old man, Joseph Adetola said the above words before an Ikare Akoko Customary Court while stating his case in a divorce suit he instituted seeking the end to his nine-year-old marriage.

Adetola had approached the court seeking to divorce his wife, Monsurat Adetola.

The petitioner in his evidence told the court that the defendant, 28-year-old Monsurat is an habitual adulterer who indulges in sleeping with different men.

He also narrated how she came to dump the corpse of one of their children at the door of their family house some months ago after she packed away from her matrimonial home.

Adetola further told the court that efforts to make her change her ways home proved abortive and therefore the needs to let her go.

The defendant, Monsurat did not deny any of the claims, but admitted to all.

The Court, thereafter, in its judgement observed that there is no more love between the couple.

It also observed that the marriage was not properly constituted according to the customary law of Ondo State, 2006, hence the shabby treatment of the petitioner by the defendant.

It therefore stated that it cannot bind two unwilling people.

The Court President, Mr S.S. Rotimi with whom was Mr Francis Gbiri, posited that there is nothing to dissolve and therefore maintained that granting the application is the right thing to do.

The Court therefore ordered that the two issues of the marriage who have been living with the defendant should continue to do so.

It also ordered the petitioner to be paying a monthly feeding allowance of N1,500 on each of the children from the 31st day of August, 2018.

Civil visit is however granted to both parties while any of the aggrieved couple is given the right of appeal within 30 days.
