More facts surrounding the decision of Former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to dump the corrupt administration of Godwin Obaseki have emerged.
The former Police Chief who, prior to his departure, chaired the PPP Task Force Committee, was said to have been enraged by the disrespect he suffered at the hands of Jiro, a consultant from Delta state.
Although Arase got a huge dose of apologies during an Exco meeting when Obaseki took a leave of absence to recover from the electoral damage inflicted on him during the Presidential elections, but never assuaged.
Jiro who is one of the many people Obaseki ferried from Lagos state, is in charge of revenue collection from the 18 Local Government Areas in Edo state and was reported to have addressed Dr. Solomon Arase rudely, provoking the man to abandon the administration.
There were already nursed grievances over the governor’s characteristic nature of extracting plans from Edo citizens in his administration but calling on foreign elements from Lagos, Delta, and the likes to execute the plans at inflated costs, but the insolence of Jiro served as the tipping point and Dr. Solomon Arase refused all entreaties, including a reported personal visit by the Governor himself, to continue working with the administration.
To save face, the government is sugar-coating his resignation with claims that the former police chief dumped the administration to pursue other things and that he has accepted the role of an ‘honorary adviser’.
Like Tijani Nwadei, Obaseki’s Executive Assistant from Delta State who now calls the shot in Government House, Jiro is said to have masterminded series of controversial dealings, many of which have resulted in confrontations with several government officials.
